5G: Arcep publishes a report to share its understanding of the Issues and challenges at hand
In March 2017, Arcep published a report on the fifth generation of mobile telephony, which is currently in the process of being defined . In its report, Arcep delivers a detailed snapshot of the technologies being developed which could enable the jump in performance being promised by new 5G networks. In particular, the Internet of things appears to be a key driver for 5G adoption, either with critical applications (with high reliability or very low latency requirements) or with ever more densely deployed devices (massive machine-type communications).

Spotlight on the IoT at the Mobile World Congress 2016
The 2016 Mobile World Congress (MWC) was held from 22 to 25 February 2016 in Barcelona. This annual trade show hosted by the GSMA is the largest of its kind for the mobile industry, attracting 101,000 visitors and 2,200 exhibitors.
Two main areas of focus were on display at this year’s edition: 5G and the Internet of Things (IoT).
Arcep out in the field for the IoT: to the Cité de l’objet connecté and IoT Valley
As part of its strategic review, Arcep has included the Internet of Things as one of its 12 priorities for the coming years, to enable the emergence of these networks and new generation applications. To this end, the Authority needs to be able to strike the right balance between its roles as regulator and as an enabler of innovation.
GRACO meeting of 12 January 2016: “Smart regions: what role should the regulator play?”
Every year, the plenary meeting of GRACO, the discussion forum between Arcep and local authorities, is an opportunity for public and private sector players from the electronic communications ecosystem to discuss the latest developments in the sector. The meeting on 12 January 2016 was part of Arcep’s forward-looking process, examining the role that the regulator can play in helping to support innovation and digital development in the regions of France. The meeting was attended by more than 250 people who came to listen and discuss the key issues and challenges surrounding the development of smart regions.
